The problem of the rational use and protection of the wild medicinal and aromatic plants is closely related to current information about the chorology and resources of the rare and valuable species.

In the National Biological Strategy (1994) the problem for the wild medicinal plant resources and their sustainable development has been discussed.

A literature survey about the distribution and resource characteristics of some rare species as Ruta graveolens, Sideritis syriaca, Alkanna tinctoria etc. is presented. The biodiversity and resources of the medicinal plants in some interesting floral regions are also introduced.

The goals, methods and approaches in the mapping of the medicinal plant populations are specified.
