Analysis of author's contributions given in the Book of Abstracts and Proceedings of the First Conference on Medicinal Plants of Southeast European Countries (I CMAPSEEC)

Book of Abstracts

During the preparation for the Conference, 331 authors from 16 countries submitted 170 abstracts. Co-authors from two different countries prepared six abstracts, and those from three – one. Detail structure of authors from different countries contributed in Book of Abstract is presented in Figure 1.

(x-axis: number of authors; y-axis: countries)

Simultaneously, number of authors per abstracts varied from 1 to 8, what could be seen in Figure 2.

Figure 2. Number of authors contributed per single abstract in the Book of Abstracts
(x-axis: number of authors; y-axis: number of abstracts)

In the same time, number of authors being involved in preparation of more then one abstract was rather high. Although majority of authors has had only one abstract (222), few of them were authors even in nine cases (see Figure 3).

Subsequently, an average (virtual) number of authors per abstract were about 2 (1.95), while contribution of participated countries in the abstract preparation should be described as follows (see Figure 4).

The average specific contribution of authors from different countries to the content of Book of Abstracts could be estimated from the quotient resulting from number of abstracts and authors from correspondig country (see Figure 5).

Proceedings of the First Conference on MAP's of Southeast European Countries

From total number of 170 contributions offered for the First Conference as abstracts, 128 was presented (75.29%), while book of proceedings from that conference contains only 106 contributions (62.35%). Due the different reasons, Proceedings of the First Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries contains few contributions which are not in the Book of Abstracts. For book of proceeding 203 authors from 15 countries submitted 106 papers. Co-authors from two different countries prepared five papers, and those from three – one. Detail structure of authors from different countries contributed in Proceedings of the First Conference is presented in Figure 6.

Subsequently, an average (virtual) number of authors per paper were 1.91 (somewhat lower then in the case of abstract (1.95). Contribution of participated countries in the full paper preparation should be described as follows (see Figure 9).

The average specific contribution of authors from different countries to the content of Proceedings of the First Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Southeast European Countries could be estimated from the quotient resulting from number of full papers and authors from correspondig country (see Figure 10).

One quite different approach, simple correlation between presented abstracts and appropriate papers, makes possible to evaluate follow up of abstracts presented in Book of Abstracts with full papers presented in the book of proceedings from the Conference. Actually, quotient resulting from corresponding numbers should be assumed as relative success of authors from different countries in effort to publish all their announced contributions in the book of Conference proceedings (see Figure 11). From the other side, mentioned quotient could be assumed as relative degree of affinity of authors to publish their papers in the last mentioned book, as well as how they are serious at all.
